Why does the skin raise after getting a scratch or cut?

Like right after getting a cut or scratch the skin around it raises slightly.

Why?|||There are an extremely complicated set of substances released by damaged tissues in response to an injury (they are called cytokines, interleukins, TNF, etc) and one of their results is swelling (others are increased temp, redness, leaky capillaries, migration of white cells etc).

Overall this is called SIRS--the systemic inflammatory response system.|||its your bodies way of protecting it.|||its just swelling... like if you were to get a huge scrape... you will swell basically
