How did our skin race get a second name?

Caucasians are known as white and African-American are known as black. When actually coloring a Caucasian person with crayon you use a shade of peach and coloring an African-American person you use a shade of brown. Where did white and black come from? I%26#039;m just curious.|||Race was socially constructed (in colonial times) by those of European descent to distinguish themselves from those of African descent. Kinda like a hierarchy with %26quot;whites%26quot; at the top and %26quot;blacks%26quot; at the bottom.|||People use the terms %26#039;white and %26#039;black%26#039; to differentiate clearly... though i too have wondered many times why do people have to use the terms white and black.
